# Retire an Online Booking Service Without Losing Existing Visits

FindSlot Team · Published Oct 23, 2026 · Updated Oct 20, 2026

Retiring a service means deciding what happens to new requests and separately resolving appointments already booked. Review future visits before changing the menu, then update the public wording and staff handover so clients receive one consistent explanation.

An old service can remain visible in several places: the booking page, a promotional post, a printed menu or a saved message. Removing one reference does not finish the work.

## Define what is actually ending

Decide whether the service is discontinued, temporarily unavailable or being replaced. If it will return, decide whether the business can state a reliable date. If the replacement differs in scope, time or price, explain those differences.

Create a short internal note with the last date offered, responsible person and treatment of existing bookings. Keep this operational record in your normal business process; it is not a claim that FindSlot includes a dedicated service-retirement workflow.

## Inspect upcoming appointments

Review future appointments for the service and identify the client, provider, date and agreed scope. Decide which bookings the business can still honor. For the others, discuss a workable change with the client.

For an illustrative beauty studio, an express service might be replaced by a longer appointment. A client booked into a 20-minute slot cannot be moved silently into a 40-minute service at the same start time. Check capacity, explain the difference and save only the arrangement that is actually agreed.

## Change new booking choices carefully

Use the controls available in your account to stop offering the outdated option as intended. Then open the public page and test what a new client can select. Do not treat the internal edit alone as proof that every public route is correct.

Check:

- Whether the retired service still appears.
- Whether a replacement has a clear description.
- Which providers appear for that replacement.
- Whether its appointment length fits the schedule.
- Whether an old promotional link still makes an outdated promise.

Test through a phone as well as the business's ordinary website link.

## Give returning clients a useful explanation

Suggested manual wording:

> We no longer offer \[service\] for new bookings from \[date\]. \[Replacement\] is available and includes \[scope\]. If you already have an appointment for the previous service, contact \[route\] so we can review your specific booking.

If you have already contacted every affected client, make the wording reflect that actual process. Do not imply that a replacement is identical when it changes the service or price.

## Verify the remaining calendar

After the menu update, review existing appointments again. Check that any agreed changes are recorded with the right service, provider, time and status. A menu decision should not leave a front-desk colleague guessing whether an old booking will still take place.

**Should the old appointment history disappear?** Preserve useful history through the product's normal controls and review records before taking any irreversible action.

**Does a new service description replace client agreement?** No. Resolve the specific booking if its arrangement needs to change.
