# Changing Service Prices: Review Existing Bookings First

FindSlot Team · Published Oct 23, 2026 · Updated Oct 20, 2026

Before changing a public service price, decide how the business will handle appointments that already exist. Separate the new menu price, the amount previously communicated to a client and the price recorded on each appointment. Check those details rather than assuming one edit resolves all three.

This is a booking communication workflow. The business must establish its own agreed pricing and payment process, then make the appointment information match what it has communicated.

## Define the change precisely

Write down which service is changing, the effective date and whether its scope or duration changes too. A price increase for the same appointment is different from replacing a short service with a longer package.

Use a brief internal decision record:

- Service name and current description.
- New price and intended start date.
- Treatment of existing appointments.
- Person responsible for client questions.
- Other places displaying the old menu.

Review your actual service and appointment records before announcing the change. Do not rely on an assumed rule about how a catalog edit affects already-booked visits.

## Review future appointments for that service

Identify upcoming bookings and inspect their recorded details. Check what the client was told when booking and whether a change needs discussion. Include appointments made manually as well as those created through the public page.

For an illustrative salon, a menu may move from a $45 service to a $50 service next month. The team should decide how an appointment booked earlier will be handled, then communicate that decision clearly. These amounts are examples, not recommended pricing.

Avoid changing a provider or appointment length as an unnoticed side effect of the price update. Review any changed scope explicitly.

## Make the public wording agree

Compare the [online booking page](https://findslot.ai/features/booking-page), your website, social posts and printed menu. Explain what is included, when a consultation is needed and how the displayed price should be understood.

A useful manual message is specific:

> From \[date\], the listed price for \[service and scope\] will be \[amount\]. Your appointment on \[date\] will be handled as follows: \[clear agreed details\]. Contact \[route\] with questions.

Use the final sentence about an existing booking only after checking its actual arrangement. A general announcement can leave a returning client unsure whether it applies to their next visit.

## Check booked value separately

FindSlot client profiles show booked value from accepted and completed appointment prices, including future bookings. This is not payment collected. Read the [booked value versus revenue guide](https://findslot.ai/customer-booked-value-vs-revenue) before using a price change to interpret a client's totals.

A higher recorded appointment value does not establish that the client paid more, or paid at all. Use the business's payment records for that question.

After making permitted changes, check a representative existing appointment and a new controlled booking. Confirm the displayed service, price, duration and provider.

## Questions to resolve before announcing

**Does editing a service automatically settle every existing booking?** Inspect the records and communicate the business's decision. Do not make that assumption.

**What if the duration changes too?** Review staff availability and affected appointments. A price notice alone does not reserve extra time.
